Snack
We will have a snack time at the end of each day. For this snack, we would love for you to send in one large box of crackers/pretzels to share each month. We will send reminders home in our weekly newsletters when we need more. If you would prefer to send a HEALTHY snack from home for your own child, that is fine too.
Specials
We will send home monthly specials schedules.
Workshop Model
This year your child will participate in a reading and writing workshop. In this model we will teach mini lessons on different literacy skills and then your child will have time to practice these new skills in their own reading/writing. While this practice is happening we will be holding individual conferences with children and meeting with small groups of children who need similar instruction. We are excited to use our science and social study state standards as the themes for each unit.
Word Sort Routine
Each week your child will study words with similar spelling patterns. This routine will help your child learn to read and spell these words. Here is the routine we will follow at school.
Monday – Cut out words, read the words, sort the words into groups with similar spelling patterns
Tuesday – Sort the words into groups with similar spelling patterns, highlight the spelling patterns, write the words in a spelling notebook, go on a word hunt
Wednesday – Sort the words into groups with similar spelling patterns, rainbow write sentences with their words in their spelling notebook
Thursday – Buddy sort (Someone says the words while your child writes the words in their spelling notebook)
Friday - Sort the words and glue the words in their spelling notebook
Birthday Clebrations
We will celebrate your child's birthday with their homeroom classmates (16 students this year). It works best for us to have school parties at 2:45. If you would like to bring your child's favorite book to read to us while we are eating, that would be great!
Scholastic Book Orders
These will be sent home the first week of each month. The book order will come home on Monday and be due that Friday. If you would rather order online you can use our classroom codes:
Repinski - L3YKJ
Keefe - H2HNX

- If you would like to come read a book to our class, please let me know.
- Help with holiday parties is always greatly appreciated.
A.M. Supervision
Morning supervision begins at 8:10. Please do not drop off your child before that time.
Big 5
When the snow starts to fly your child will need to bring the BIG 5 (coat, hat, mittens, snowpants, boots) each day.
*Please remember to send inside shoes for your child to wear once it is boot season!

Change of plans?
If your child's transportation plans change during the day please make sure you call the office before 2:00 or email me before 1:00. That way we can make sure the message gets delivered to your child.
Activity Bus
If you want your child to ride the activity bus you must register them with Marisol in the front office.
Vocabulary
We are excited to have a strong focus on vocabulary (smart words) this year! Hopefully you will begin to hear some of our smart words being used around your dinner table.

Popcorn Words
We study high frequency words, or words you see a lot in text, but can be tricky to sound out or chunk up. These are words that should just 'pop' out of your mouth as you are reading and 'pop' on to your paper when you write.
